Story Time

Throughout 2020 and 2021 we commissioned a range of artists to create a series of recorded performed readings of children’s books, which were all written and created by global majority* and/or disabled artists, that audiences could watch online.

In total 327 families and 142 schools enjoyed readings of children’s book such as:

  • When We Lived in Uncle’s Hat by Peter Stamm and Jutta Bauer
  • Suzy Orbit, Astronaut by Ruth Quayle and Jez Tuya
  • The Explorer by Katherine Rundell
  • Rumbelow’s Dance by John Yeoman and Quentin Blake
  • Rapunzel by Mike Kenny (abridged from original play)
  • Hue Boy by Rita and Caroline Binch
  • Silly Billy by Anthony Browne
  • Jamela’s Dress by Niki Daly
  • Clean Up by Nathan Bryon & Dapo Adeola
  • Billy and the Beast by Nadia Shireen
  • Amazing by Steve Antony
  • If All the World Were by Joseph Coelho
  • So Much by Trisha Cook and Helen Oxenbury
  • Billy and the Dragon by Nadia Shireen
  • Look Up by Nathan Bryon & Dapo Adeola
  • My Monster and Me by Nadya Hussain & Ella Bailey
  • Nimesh the Adventurer by Ranjit Singh & Mehrodokht Amini

The project introduced audiences to some fabulous children’s books, and shone a spotlight on some delightfully illustrated stories and talented storytellers. The recorded readings were aimed at children aged 3+, created for schools to watch in class and families to watch at home, with a craft activity to do at the end of each video.

Funded by The CAF Resilience Fund, ACE, and Leeds Libraries. Nimesh the Adventurer funded by The Mohn Westlake Arts Fund.
