The festival took place on a biennial basis for a decade and brought a wealth of exciting and wonderful performances from around the UK and Europe to local audiences in York aged 6 months to 12 years. Themes of the festival ranged from parties and celebrations, to outer space and magical gardens.
Taking place at York Theatre Royal, the venue was transformed into a child-friendly space for a week of performances, events, trails and workshops, and a delightful crafting table always on the go in the foyer. The building was decorated with rockets taking off, flowers and birds, playhouses and tents.
In 2018 the festival was replicated in Leeds at the Carriageworks Theatre, which was similarly transformed into a child-friendly space for the week.
Covid saw the cancellation of the festival in 2020 and a decision by the partners to develop other projects.
