Information for Creatives
We strive to create a collaborative, inclusive working environment where each member of the team can contribute, feel comfortable and supported, and be their true selves.
For each production Artistic Director, Wendy Harris, brings together a representative team of artists who will work together to create a unique and meaningful theatre show for children aged 3+.
Our Process
We start with the commission of a writer to create a script based on ideas that our young audience can relate to. In the past this has included interrogation of themes such as sleep, emotional literacy and memory, alongside our seasonal adaptions of traditional tales re-imagined for a contemporary audience.
Following the commission is a period of research and development with all the creative team, any associated advisors, and then with children. This leads into the making and creating of the play, and all its elements, in readiness for the rehearsal period.
Our Values – Working Together
We employ a range of practitioners, depending on the nature of the show; movement directors, composers, directors, set and costume designers, film makers, puppeteers, actors, and musicians.
We are committed to employing representative teams and encouraging those who are entering the profession as well as mid-career and established artists.
We also work with Leeds-based freelance creative artists who have workshop leading skills in our local arts engagement work. We are a family friendly organisation and members of PiPA. All our work is created for children and families and our aim is for all children to access and experience theatre.
We are committed to being an anti-racist organisation. We care about the world and are working to be more environmentally friendly, and we encourage our teams, Board, and local artists to attend SAIL’s carbon literacy training.
