Children and families are invited to step into a magical world of shoemaking, mischievous elves and the power of kindness as we bring a new retelling of Elves and the Shoemaker to theatres, arts centres and schools from October to December 2027.

Written by Rhys Warrington, the 2026 Jerwood Writer in Residence, this family-friendly production reimagines the much-loved traditional tale for contemporary audiences, exploring themes of community, belonging, resilience and how small acts of generosity can make a big difference.

The story follows a skilled shoemaker and their child as they arrive in a new place, hoping to build a better life through their craft. Making beautiful shoes, repairing old ones and giving worn-out things a new lease of life, they work hard to make ends meet. But with the local community proving less than welcoming and winter approaching, their hopes begin to fade. Then, just when they need it most, two mischievous elves appear in their workshop after dark, bringing unexpected help and a little bit of magic.

With original songs and charming design by Kate Bunce, the production celebrates craftsmanship, creativity and the importance of looking after one another. Kate’s previous design work for Tutti Frutti includes Underneath a Magic Moon, Yellow is the Colour of Sunshine and Wild. She also designed I Believe in Unicorns in the West End.

Rhys Warrington is an exciting emerging writer whose profile continues to grow. Alongside his role as Jerwood Writer in Residence, he has a new show opening at the Royal Court in December 2026.

Designed for children aged three and above, Elves and the Shoemaker runs for approximately 50 minutes, making it an accessible and engaging theatre experience for younger audiences. With plenty of humour, a sprinkling of magic and themes that resonate with audiences of all ages, it offers a heartwarming experience for children and families alike.

We are now welcoming bookings from theatres, arts centres and schools for the October–December 2027 tour. For more information, contact Tour Booker Dick Bonham at dick@tutti-frutti.org.uk.
