Live Little Stories for Leeds

30th Jul 2020 to 30th Jul 2020

In 2020 nine Leeds-based theatre companies and artists came together for the first time to create a new theatre project, Live Little Stories, for the children of Leeds.

Over one day, across the city, organisations Tutti Frutti, Wrongsemble, Fidget Theatre, Alive & Kicking, 154 Collective, Slung Low, Unlimited Theatre, Interplay, Theatre Company Blah Blah Blah and local freelance artists ran a day of micro-theatre and storytelling performances for primary school-aged children and their families at six locations across the city: Interplay in Armley, Shine in Harehills, Slung Low in Holbeck, plus three different ‘Leeds Little Free Library’ sites.

Invited children and families had the opportunity to see these fantastic shows: Space Shed by Unlimited Theatre, Hue Boy by Tutti Frutti, The Adventures of Walter Lemonface by 154 Collective, Rapunzel by Tutti Frutti and Wrongsemble, and five new pop-up story pieces by Fidget Theatre and Alive & Kicking. All events took place outdoors with strict social distancing measures in place.

Unlimited Theatre’s How I Hacked My Way Into Space was live-streamed on social media and YouTube. This fantastic event was also captured as a radio documentary and broadcast by Leeds Chapel FM.

Live Little Stories brought theatre to the centre of communities in Leeds, and provided invited children with a chance to be delighted by a live experience on their doorstep.

The project was funded by Leeds 2023, and the collective are continuing to plan more projects for the future.
